Maintenance Technician I - Thermal


The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe maintenance, service, and repair of the machinery and equipment located in the Plant and at remote locations. That responsibility will take the form of specific duties to be performed regularly at specific times of the 8-hour shift, and other duties that may be assigned from time to time. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for recording their activities and their observations regarding the condition of the machinery and equipment in the Maintenance Logbook. In addition, it is the responsibility of the Maintenance Technician to assist the Operator in the performance of his job in operating the plant.


The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Lead for work duties, and day-to-day assignments, to the Operator for instructions relating to the operation of the Plant and for all other matters, to the Plant Manager.


The Maintenance Technician works 8-hour shifts (6 AM - 2 PM) or as otherwise scheduled by the Plant Manager and is paid according to the current Union (International Union of Operating Engineers Affiliated with AFL-CIO Local No. 95-95A) contract.


The following list of duties is not all inclusive and is meant to serve as a guide for the scope of work to be carried out by the Maintenance Mechanic.



  • Inspect machinery and equipment for proper oil levels, pressures, temperatures, and flows
  • Diagnose source(s) of trouble in operating equipment, and perform proper repair/replacement procedures including but not limited to boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, steam turbines, gas turbine generator, valves, etc.
  • Properly perform Lockout Tagout (LOTO) procedures in isolating and de-energizing equipment and systems that are to be worked on
  • Identify and eliminate or report unsafe conditions in the plant and perform all tasks in a safety conscious manner
  • Adjust, align, balance repair, overhaul and rebuild plant equipment as required
  • Assist the Operator in the operation of the Plant as requested
  • Monitor and control water chemical feed systems
  • Lubricate machinery
  • Monitor shaft and stem packing on machines, equipment and valves
  • Measure and record oil levels in underground oil tanks
  • Erect and take down scaffolding
  • Dismantle machines and equipment for inspection and repair
  • Clean and leak check heat exchanger tubing
  • Be proficient with refrigerant transfer procedures
  • Perform welding, cutting, brazing, pipefitting tasks as directed or required
  • Assist Distribution crews as directed or required
  • Pick up trash throughout the plant
  • Perform janitorial duties as required
  • Clean and paint equipment and/or areas of the plant as directed
  • Upgrade skills and knowledge of plant systems, equipment, and components as directed or required
  • Participate in Cordia's safety program and complete all assigned tasks


Knowledge & Skills



  • Mechanical aptitude and skill set as evaluated by the Maintenance Lead
  • Ability to not only learn complex systems and work under direction, but also to react to emergencies using judgment and intuitive skills
  • Sufficient physical attributes to be able to perform the rigors of working in hot and cold locations
  • Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • The ability to work in confined spaces
  • The ability to work on ladders and at heights
  • The ability to lift up to 75 lbs.


Experience & Education Requirements



  • High school education
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • A pathway to attaining Stationary Engineer and Universal refrigeration license.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license
