Details

The laboratory of Dr. Amanda Dudek in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our group investigating cellular factors influencing efficiency of HIV-1 infection in primary CD4+ T cells.

This NIH-funded position will support projects focused on using gene editing and mechanistic virology to characterize the role of novel cellular factors influencing HIV-1 replication. It will also involve testing, optimizing, and implementing novel primary immune and hematopoietic stem cell-based models for understanding HIV-1 replication and immune recognition of infection.

Applicants with strong backgrounds in molecular biology, virology, immunology, and stem cell biology, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Strong experience with molecular biology (e.g. cloning, mutagenesis, western blot etc.), mammalian tissue culture, and primary immune cell isolation and culture from peripheral blood will be required for this position. Prior experience with stem cell (iPSC, HSPC, or MSC) culture and differentiation is desired.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D/Ph.D. degree and a strong background in molecular biology and microbiology. The ideal candidate should have a strong publication record and the ability to work both independently and as part of collaborative team. The candidate must be willing and able to work with replication-competent HIV-1 in a BSL-2+ laboratory. Compensation will be determined based on experience and current NIH guidelines. The ideal start-date for this position is January 1, 2025, but can be negotiated.

To apply, please send a cover letter detailing your research experience and interests, a CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Amanda Dudek at amanda-dudek@uiowa.edu (mailto:amanda-dudek@uiowa.edu).
