| Posting Summary |
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promises seeking a RU-Flourishing Clerical Assistant. The representative will engage with incarcerated individuals, assist with program recruitment and training, and provide administrative support. Travel to correctional facilities and the Rutgers University-Newark campus is required.
Rutgers Advanced Institute for the Study of Entrepreneurship and Development (
RAISED) is seeking a dedicated and professional representative to engage with incarcerated individuals and promote the RU-Flourishing program at New Jersey State Correctional Facilities and provide support with the RU-Flourishing program recruitment and training sessions.
Travel between campuses is required as needed.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Attend monthly information fairs at Northern State Prison, Garden State Correctional Facility, Bayside State Prison, and South Woods State Prison on designated Thursdays (8:00 AM-12:00 PM, Jan 15-Jun 25, 2026).
- Provide information to incarcerated persons (IPs) about the RU-Flourishing Program.
- Support evening training sessions (4:00-9:00 PM) at Rutgers University-Newark, including logistics, materials, catering setup, and cleanup.
- Conduct follow-up calls with interested IPs, complete intake interviews, guide them through requirements, and submit required intake forms.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

*High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.
*An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement. |

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Prior experience in administrative or clerical support roles.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with incarcerated individuals and program participants, culturally sensitive.
- Organizational skills to manage intake interviews, forms, and training logistics.
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion in sensitive environments.
Technical:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to use email effectively.
Other Requirements:
- Must pass NJ Department of Corrections volunteer background check prior to the start of this position.
- Completion of NJDOC volunteer trainings prior to starting.
- Reliable transportation to travel to correctional facilities throughout the state of NJ and Rutgers Newark campus.
