Introduction to the job

ASML US brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Wilton, CT, Chandler, AZ, San Jose, CA and San Diego, CA.

As a Research Engineer on 2nd shift, you will be responsible for performing numerous activities during the preparation and demonstration of developed technology on a Research EUV light source machine. You will possess intimate knowledge of Research/Tech Dev proto machines and provide technical support for all sub-systems of the machine and work with scientists to understand, prepare and execute the research learning activities. To be effective in the role, candidates must possess interpersonal skills to cross functional and department boundaries and to build constructive and effective relationships across the organization.

Role and responsibilities

  • Gain full understanding of the technology, integration and functioning of new modules by reading documentation, and participating in knowledge transfer sessions.

  • Develop procedures, troubleshooting activities, and action plans.

  • Maintain ownership of the fishbones for system issues and follow a closed loop issue management system for the proto machines.

  • Contribute to the PERT for upgrade/integration activities of new modules.

  • Be a critical TPS (test plan specification) reviewer for content criticality toward research objectives and readiness for execution on proto machines, from a qualification perspective and a data collection perspective.

  • Spend time with scientist to translate TPS's into sequence of execution during test campaigns.

  • Execute the test sequence on the proto machines.

  • Support data collection, analysis and review test conclusions for clarity.

  • Follow a thorough but flexible process best suited for an organizational ethos that allows idea generation, concept development and demonstration in a fast fail manner.

  • Personally conduct and work to prepare all activities reflecting ASML safety culture and programs.

  • Deliver technical and progress reports and presentations to upper management and internal / external customers.

  • Create and develop innovative ideas pertinent to the development, improvement, or maturity of EUV light sources.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and experience

  • Requires an MS and minimum 3 years of experience or BS and minimum of 4 years of experience in Optics, Opto-Mechanics, Electrical/Photonics Engineering, or Physics or Mechanical Engineering, or other related science discipline.

  • Experience in technical engineering roles (some experience in a technical or project leadership a plus).

  • EUV light source experienced highly desired, especially generalist experience

  • Familiar with the engineering development process from requirements to design to assembly to testing of mechanical and/or opto-mechanical assemblies.

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability in an individual and team setting.

  • Requires gowning in Class 10K gowning protocol.

  • May need to work in labs with equipment that emit high-pitched noise.

  • May spend extended periods of time at a computer workstation.

This 2nd shift position is located in San Diego, CA. It requires on-site presence, it is not a remote position. Shift hours are generally 1500-2400.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:

$115,875-193,125

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.

The Company offers employees and their families, medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to participate in the Company's 401k plan. Employees will also receive eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month and (13) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
