Job Objective:
Support the property tax and sales and use tax functions through accurate compliance, reporting, and tax accounting activities. This role partners with accounting and operations teams to gather required data, prepare property tax returns, assist with assessments and appeals, and maintain property tax systems and records. May also support sales and use tax projects as needed.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file annual property tax renditions/returns and related compliance filings under supervision, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales tax returns and related compliance filings under supervision, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Compile, validate, and reconcile data from accounting and operational teams to identify reportable assets, changes, and potential obsolescence factors.
  • Assist with review of assessment notices for accuracy and help prepare supporting documentation for value discussions with assessing authorities.
  • Support appeal preparation activities (data gathering, schedules, documentation) and participate in internal planning discussions regarding appeal opportunities.
  • Maintain and update values, asset records, and supporting documentation in the property tax system; calculate estimated tax liabilities as assigned.
  • Support property tax accounting activities including preparing entries/support for monthly accruals, payments, and related reconciliations.
  • Support sales and use tax savings initiatives by conducting reverse audits and compliance reviews.
  • Learn and maintain department processes, calendars, and files; help ensure document retention and audit-ready support.
  • Participate in internal and external tax audits by compiling requested data and documentation and responding to information requests with guidance.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders (Accounting, Operations) and external parties (assessors, collectors, vendors) as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate commitment to company core values and support the company mission and vision through reliable, high-quality work.
  • Adhere to established work schedule, attendance standards, and punctuality expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience, with exposure to property tax compliance and/or tax accounting preferred.
  • Oil & gas and/or midstream industry experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of property tax compliance concepts (asset classifications, renditions, assessments) and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with Accounting and Operations.
  • Required: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Preferred: Experience with SAP and/or property tax software/systems.

Education Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university or college; accounting, finance, economics, or business preferred.
  • CMI designation (Property Tax) a plus, not required.
