The Nursing Manager at Aurora Pavilion is responsible for ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practice and hospital policy, goals and objectives. This position assists in contributing to the hospital's philosophy, objectives, educational and Performance & Improvement efforts, while providing supervision of House Supervisors, RN's and MHTs. This position will monitor staffing needs on assigned shifts. This position is responsible for assisting the DON/CNO and CEO in evaluating, reviewing, designing and implementing hospital training events with respect to all RN//MHT staff required training. Also provides, on as-needed basis, patient nursing assessments. Participates in Treatment Team meetings as needed

Duties:

  • Fulfills responsibility to the organization by adhering to its philosophy, policies and procedures and by supporting its goals.
  • Chair committees as assigned.
  • Acts as leader, role model, and mentor to staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of regulatory agency standards.
  • Completes a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually.
  • Identifies capital needs and justification.
  • Monitors and controls productive and non-productive time.
  • Controls overtime and supply costs.
  • Shares help with other units.
  • Schedules staff according to budgeted guidelines and provides core-staffing daily.
  • Completes annual performance reviews.
  • Observes nursing activities on all shifts.
  • Interviews and selects for open positions.
  • Provides counseling in a timely manner and initiates progressive discipline.
  • Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Meets regularly with staff to mentor and promote staff development and satisfaction
  • Insures mentorship and professional development to the clinical nurse supervisor group by providing regular group meetings and monthly 1:1 meetings.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate patient care.
  • Performs interactive daily unit rounds focusing on customer satisfaction (patients, physicians, associates, and visitors).
  • Investigates patient complaints and follows through on incident reports and corrective measures.
  • Monitors charting for accuracy and completeness. Utilizes chart audits to track progress.
  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities and utilizes PDSA to develop corrective action plan and evaluates progress through resolution.
  • Facilitates unit cleanliness and order.
  • Serves as back up support to the charge nurse, particularly when the charge nurse on days is required to take patient assignment.
  • Insures unit meets regulatory requirements and environmental standards for safety.
  • Facilitates unit achievement of established core measure benchmarks and compliance to performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develops methods to elicit, convey and receive information from staff.
  • Demonstrates skill and maturity in problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrates ability to make and communicate decisions and rationale to relevant parties.
  • Maintains open communications among other Clinical Nurse Managers, House Supervisors and Directors to better serve the units' needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required or equivalent combination of education and experience in nursing management; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience in a psychiatric of behavioral healthcare setting. Experience in staff education and education concepts, practices and procedures and 24 hour shift staffing experience.

Licensure: Currently SC nursing license. Current BLS & ACLS. CPI training required at 90 days of employment.
