GFT is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our Northeast Transportation. This hybrid position will be based out of GFT's New Jersey offices (Marlton or East Brunswick) or New York City office. This is an exciting time to join our team!

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Bridge Engineer, you'll immerse yourself in a dynamic mix of bridge engineering assignments across the Northeast region, contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of structure projects that strengthen regional mobility. From multi-span highway overpasses and complex river crossings to pedestrian bridges and culvert upgrades, you'll apply advanced analysis and geometry work in support of resilient, sustainable infrastructure. You'll engage in design-build and accelerated construction projects, collaborate with roadway, geotechnical, and traffic teams, and help pioneer solutions that drive multimodal connectivity and community value.

The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 4 years of progressive design experience in structural engineering design for multiple types of bridges and structures. Under supervision, performs plan development and calculations of varying degrees of difficulty for a wide variety of assignments that may include technical studies, structural design and analysis for bridges and related structures, load ratings, and quantities. As you grow in the role, you'll be encouraged to expand your technical reach: advancing your modeling skills, mentoring junior engineers, participating in business development opportunities, and broadening your exposure to large-scale public agency clients.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Perform structural analyses, design, and verification of bridge geometry.
  • Perform bridge load ratings.
  • Develop structure plans for bridges and other transportation structures such as culverts, retaining walls, utility vaults, noise abatement walls, pedestrian bridges, and sign structures.
  • Participate in the development of construction contract documents, such as specifications and cost estimates, and review shop drawings and other construction documents.
Education | Experience:

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.
  • EIT/FE Certification.
  • 4+ years of experience in designing roadway infrastructure.
  • Understanding of standard engineering practices, techniques, and applicable codes.
  • Proficiency with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Working knowledge of plan development with CADD (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word for engineering and business applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Prior experience with New Jersey Department of Transportation and/or New Jersey Turnpike Authority projects preferred including well versed in client design policies, standards and specifications.
  • Experience with Bentley OpenBridge Designer (LEAPSteel), CSiBridge, and AASHTOWare BrR desirable.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to actively engage in multiple perspectives when solving problems, is willing to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
