Position Summary

Responsible for supervising a software development team working towards delivering reliable software solutions and delivering projects on time and budget. Responsible for applying processes, driving work plans, and for providing technical direction for the design and development of complex engineering products. Leads and participates in process improvement initiatives and in technology roadmap planning. Exercises a leadership role in developing and applying new approaches to technical design, development, and operations.


Responsible for the people management, functional competency development, managers development and overall execution control of software development activities. Must adhere to systems and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards, manage the product design end-to-end. Work with business segment R&D Managers in supporting new product development and sustaining engineering. The role is closely linked to the R&D Directors / Engineering Managers for the business segments including a dotted-line reporting link with Corporate Office.



Exercises leadership at reaching a consensus and developing solutions with other functional leaders for processes that are at conjunction points between software team and other functions.


Must be familiar with a significant variety of the design concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on experience and good judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

What You'll Do As A Senior Manager, Software Engineering.

  • Assigns team members in the specification, design, implementation, and verification of software applications and firmware according to corporate policies and business operating procedures.
  • Works with other software team members and engineering managers to coordinate team's activities and resolve engineering and project issues.
  • Reviews team deliverables including specifications, designs, code, and other deliverables, providing guidance and feedback.
  • Mentors team to propagate good design principles and development practices.
  • Investigates new software technologies and tools which may increase team's performance.
  • Creates and maintains software work instructions which comply with regulatory guidelines and corporate polices.
  • Collaborates with groups outside of direct responsibilities including other engineering groups, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, etc. for project planning, analysis of product requirements, and to outline proposed solutions.
  • Sets objectives for direct reports, assessing performance throughout the year, and providing an annual performance review.
  • Recruits for open positions on team. Contracts with outside software firms and consultants as needed. Manages both onsite and offshore resources.
  • Guides team in the design of safe, secure, robust software applications.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required:




  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in an R&D environment.
  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining web applications.
  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining cloud applications.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including deployment and optimization of cloud-native solutions.
  • 3+ years of experience in IoT device integration.
  • 3+ years of experience planning and managing software projects.
  • 5+ years of experience recruiting, leading, and developing a software engineering team.
  • 3+ years experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for cloud deployments.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost optimization and monitoring tools.
  • Experience with cloud security best practices and compliance (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR as relevant).
  • Experience in the medical device industry or other regulated industries requiring formalized software development processes and software risk management.
  • Possesses solid software technology knowledge across modern frameworks and platforms.
  • Experience in LEAN methodologies for process improvement and efficiency.



Preferred:



  • Experience managing an engineering team in a different field of expertise than software
  • Master's Degree in Engineering Discipline.

Specific Skills and/or Business Competencies

  • Capable technical leader within a software engineering organization who can mentor engineers and develop them into technical leads.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reports, presentations, and stakeholder engagement. Ability to clearly convey goals, status, and actions.
  • Ability to translate user needs and use cases into clear, actionable software requirements.
  • Deep understanding of web and cloud technologies and trade-offs to design robust, scalable solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Hands-on experience or significant knowledge of React.js, Node.js, and .NET frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Containers and Kubernetes, and strong understanding of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including architecture, deployment, and optimization of cloud-native applications.
  • Solid foundation in object-oriented analysis and design with experience in programming using Java, C#, and/or Python.
  • Knowledgeable in utilizing IoT Publish/Subscribe protocols such as MQTT.
  • Expertise in database design and management, particularly using MongoDB and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle activities and deliverables for enterprise-grade systems.
  • Knowledge of IoT solutions and related challenges, including security, scalability, and data integration.
  • Proven skills in working with stakeholders to refine product requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Pay range for this opportunity is $116,750.00 - $166,750.00 .This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
