What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Seattle, WA.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer you will lead the design of our bridge projects, coordinate with other disciplines, meet with clients to develop current and future projects opportunities, and provide day-to-day leadership and technical expertise. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation design, NBIS inspections, load rating and preparation of construction documents, specifications, and estimates. One of the most important responsibilities of the individual will be oversight of the technical design and quality review for our bridge design projects along with training, directing and mentoring less experienced engineers.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing and analyzing structural components of bridges, retaining walls, and related transportation structures.
  • Reviewing project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Developing details of bridge components for contract drawings.
  • Directing CAD drawing development and production.
  • Calculating quantities and developing construction cost estimates.
  • Preparing technical specifications.
  • Reviewing shop drawings.
  • Performing NBIS inspection and load ratings.
  • Ensuring accuracy of engineering design, reports, load ratings, and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Communicating with Project Managers on matters related to workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Collaborating with internal partners on highly technical or unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Show understanding of team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
  • Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
  • Lead project tasks to completion, coordinating with other disciplines, staff, subconsultants and client as needed.
  • Mentoring structural staff.
Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of related structures/bridge design experience.
  • PE required
  • Structural engineering background and experience with structural engineering design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), MathCAD and experience with structural analysis engineering software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Staad.Pro, MDX, LEAP Bridge and/or other structural analysis software systems.
  • Candidate should be well versed in the use of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and local DOT design standards.
  • Demonstrated success in managing preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, project scheduling and subconsultant management.
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication both written and verbal skills.
  • Team oriented engineer with strong communication skills.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Experience in writing/development of project proposals and letters of interest.
What we prefer you bring:
  • Client relationships in Washington State, including DOT and local agencies.
  • Masters in Civil or Structural Engineering Preferred
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $170,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
