Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

This position is responsible for providing high-level technical accounting functions, overseeing, and preparing financial reports, performing research and analysis, and maintaining the general ledger and account reconciliations. Monitors procedures and controls to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency of department processes. Facilitates key financial projects. Serves as a subject matter expert to accounting staff. Provides accounting expertise for special initiatives to guarantee the safety and soundness of financial results.


Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Reporting - Analyzes and interprets complex financial records and reports. Develops and recommends analysis and reporting methods for management. Maintains a ledger to ensure effectiveness and accuracy of all accounting tasks. Tests business continuity plans and assists in the internal control review process. Leads accounting projects.
  • System Support - Updates and tests the technical accounting system. Ensures financial platforms are functioning properly to support month-end close, external, and internal reporting requirements.
  • Collaboration - Partners with associates, business units, and managers during the course of daily accounting operations. Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced associates on specific projects. Works closely with internal and external auditors in evaluating financial data and department processes.
  • Reconcilement - Identifies and recommends process enhancements to aid in the resolution of exceptions, discrepancies, and variances encountered in different applications. Partners with senior management to ensure accurate financial close.
  • Peer Leadership - Assists management with onboarding and training of new staff. May mentor less experienced associates, including review of daily output and coaching on accounting issues.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis

Preferred Education: Advanced Degree

License or Certification Type: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) skills
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft
  • Hyperion experience
  • Experience in financial services (banking or insurance)
  • Considerable knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and GAAP Accounting
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial systems
  • Ability to use technical skills to establish and operate software products via numerous interfaces
  • Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize deliverables
  • Critical thinking skills and strategic focus
