Position Highlights

The Electrical Services unit within the University Facility Services (UFS) Department is seeking skilled and dedicated Electricians to become part of our dynamic team. Our Electrical Shop is proud to be an award-winning group that delivers a broad range of high-quality electrical services across the University of Arizona campus.

We are looking for Electricians skilled in repairing, maintaining, and installing: wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, service entrance sections, motor control centers, VFD's, along with general electrical and lighting systems. Knowledgeable in all phases of construction projects and blueprint reading. Preferred knowledge or familiarity with the installation, maintenance, and repair of audio-visual (AV) systems, support equipment and temporary power distribution, the AV systems are used for events around campus and other settings requiring multimedia technology.

This position requires overtime, weekend and holiday work. This position also requires the successful candidate to work on call or standby shifts as part of a rotation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Repairs:

  • Performs duties as assigned by Lead Electrician and Supervisor.
  • Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment used for locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
  • Operates, maintains and troubleshoots facility systems including but not limited to the electrical system and associated components, electrical distribution panels, switch gear, motor controls, generators, automatic transfer switches, lighting, low voltage control systems, transformers, street lights, hallway and classroom lighting, and Energy Management Systems.
  • This position will be in a rotation of standby to respond to after regular hours electrical emergencies.

Electrical Inspections and Maintenance:

  • Performs duties as assigned by Lead Electrician and Supervisor.
  • Perform energized inspections of electric systems from service entrance sections to electrical panels, during the inspection document in writing and with pictures each: breaker for size and ratings, each circuit wire for size and type, panel information to include make model, and serial number. After the inspection clean the panel and tighten all connections.

Electrical Construction:

  • Performs duties as assigned by Lead Electrician and Supervisor.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of installations.
  • Installs raceway, pulls wire, and mounts equipment.
  • Trims outlets, light fixtures and other electrical finish work.
  • Uses electrical formulas to figure out conductor sizes, device and panel sizes, disconnect and electrical load on all types of motors, lights and machines.
  • Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job.

AV Support:

  • Assist in setting up and installing AV equipment such as projectors, screens, sound systems, Lighting and video displays.
    wires, distribution power and extension cords, during installations.
  • Handle the maintenance, storage, and inventory of tools and equipment.
  • Support AV technicians with system testing and troubleshooting to ensure functionality.
  • Follow safety protocols and comply with worksite regulations.
  • Standby support for Electrical, A/V and power events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of electrical application for medium and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Skilled in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of electrical systems equipment and components.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Basic understanding of A/V systems and components.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
