Position Highlights

This position will direct the administrative and operational functions of the College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office at both the College of Medicine-Tucson Main Campus and the College of Medicine-Tucson South Campus. UA College of Medicine-Tucson Graduate Medical Education consists of 70 ACGME accredited programs populated by approximately 800 trainees.

The Director will participate in strategic and operational discussions involving GME within the College as well with the University's educational and clinical partners (Banner Health, Tucson VA Hospital). The incumbent will direct institutional and program compliance with ACGME accreditation standards. They will coordinate operations across multiple departments and institutional units. They will also supervise and mentor managers and senior professional staff.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and strengthen operations of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office which is responsible for 70 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited programs within the College of Medicine-Tucson.
  • Contribute to oversight of the GME Leadership Committee with the responsibility of monitoring institutional and program accreditation status to ensure compliance with accrediting body (ACGME). Participate alongside GME's Senior Associate Dean and Associate Dean in the strategic and operational discussions regarding GME/College of Medicine/Banner.
  • Represent the Graduate Medical Education Office as Lead GME institutional liaison with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, affiliated institutions and university personnel.
  • Direct the administrative and operational functions of the GME Office.
  • Provide supervision and direction to 3 full-time staff members.
  • Direct the collection of data and the preparation of reports and analyses.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of professional development opportunities for GME staff and College of Medicine residency and fellowship program personnel.
  • Advise Senior Associate Dean, Associate Dean, Program Directors, program and administrative personnel on all matters related to GME.
  • Direct and advise Program Directors with respect to resident/fellow disciplinary action. Resolve complex institutional-level operational issues and provide guidance to managers.
  • Responsible for financial management of the GME Office. Develop, implement and maintain accurate financial reporting of annual GME budgets.
  • Manage ongoing interactions with departmental and institutional leadership regarding operating expense management.
  • Support the activities of the College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team or program is essential.
