Job Description

Business Profile:

Wyman-Gordon: Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.

Location Profile:

Located in Paramount, CA, Carlton Forge Works and Press Forge produce seamless rolled rings and open and closed die forgings for the aerospace, gas turbine, industrial, commercial and nuclear industries with one of the most extensive lines of equipment and truly skilled craftsmen anywhere.

Position Summary:

The Area Supervisor ensures throughput targets are achieved in a safe, timely, quality, cost-effective and productive manner. Manages production schedules; is accountable for the achievement of area performance objectives, product quality and variable costs; ensures employees are accurately trained, assigned specific duties, coached, disciplined, and rewarded; and always optimizes equipment availability, cycle times, and overall continual improvement.

This experienced Area Supervisor will be responsible for providing supervision/direction. This individual will have responsibility for one shift, one department. Responsibilities include achievement of high quality, low cost, safety and on-time performance goals and development of advanced methods and techniques to increase productivity. This is a very fast paced environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervision of shift employees including training, discipline, housekeeping and staffing recommendations.
  • Ensure that all department production methods and practices are consistent with internal quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Effectively develop and coach employees with emphasis on building a winning team.
  • Communicate all issues to workforce working toward required goals.
  • Must be able to multi-task and have ability to drive department in meeting goals.
  • Effectively collaborate with manufacturing, quality and metallurgical engineers to achieve scrap, cost and safety requirements.
  • Lead and act in a manner that maintains a positive work atmosphere that will result in excellent relationships with customer, clients, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Manage, direct and coordinate all activities related to the area to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality and throughput targets.
  • Ensure all production data is gathered and reported correctly on a daily basis.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and process improvements, which may impact production.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring & training employees; planning, assigning & directing work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding & disciplining employees; addressing complaints & resolving problems.
  • Review variable costs, productivity, earned standard hours and throughput daily and implement effective corrective actions when targets are not achieved.
  • Support and improve upon quality initiatives designed to meet plant goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Previous supervisory experience in manufacturing environment with progressive advancement and increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of sound business practices.
  • Solid overall business acumen and a strong mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Attention to detail and an attitude of 100% compliance with all company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes while simultaneously managing several projects
  • Ability to verbally communicate and work with all levels of the organization.
  • High energy level, results driven and ability to work flexible hours

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in Business or Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience is required.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $80000 to $100000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
