Job Description

Job Summary

Cloud Engineers bridge software development and infrastructure, working closely with development teams and architects to build reliable, efficient, and scalable cloud environments that serve WGU's student and employee populations.

Job Duties

  • Perform and automate software deployments using CI/CD pipelines
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Improve application and system performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Proactively identify and resolve operational issues before they impact users
  • Provide technical guidance and support to development teams
  • Participate in and occasionally lead maintenance and innovation projects
  • Support the team's on-call rotation
  • Document progress and communicate delays or roadblocks to leadership
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Technical Skills
  • Broad experience with AWS services across compute, storage, networking, security, and databases
  • Strong Linux systems administration skills
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (ECS Fargate, EKS)
  • Understanding of Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions (CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar)
Professional Skills
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities
  • Self-directed with ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively
  • Service-oriented mindset with focus on enabling development teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of hands-on AWS experience
  • 5+ years as a Linux Systems Administrator or Engineer
  • 5+ years interfacing with development and/or operational teams
  • Experience with AI-assisted development practices

Equivalent experience: 1 year of relevant experience may substitute for 1 year of education at hiring manager's discretion.

Position & Application Details
