Job Summary
The Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Price Lab. This role will contribute to NIH-funded research projects focused on understanding how neuronal plasticity influences the brain's processing of nociceptive information from the sensory system and its relationship to chronic pain. The research involves the use of RNA sequencing, proteomic, and multiomic approaches to investigate the molecular composition of human dorsal root ganglion and spinal cord cells.
This position is jointly funded by UT Dallas and the NIH. Compensation for Postdoctoral Research Associates in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS) is based on years of experience in accordance with the current NIH (NRSA) stipend levels. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance.

  • 3-5 years of research experience in molecular pain models and/or data analysis with experience in Bioinformatics, proteomics, RNA sequencing and RNA sequencing data analysis, and multiomic integration and analysis.
  • Development of computational analysis methods is important for the position so the applicant must have experience in this area as well.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Function independently to organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments and analysis using established scientific protocols and procedures with an emphasis on RNA sequencing and proteomics.
  • Design new analysis methods for RNA sequencing and proteomic data and its integration and improve existing pipelines.
  • Conduct analysis of in vitro experiments with human DRG neurons cultured from organ donors.
  • Design new protocols; summarize findings and publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the project.
  • Supervise other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of students and undergraduate workers as needed.
  • Apply established quality control criteria in all experimental designs.
  • Perform basic lab responsibilities include following SOPs, careful record keeping, following lab safety regulations and participation in team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation using established methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Remote Work:
Some percentage possible by formal agreement in advance. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
Travel:
This position may be subject to local travel for assessment or participant needs. Other occasional travel may occur such as for training/development, conferences, etc.
