As an Associate Actuarial Director at UnitedHealth Group, you can do just that. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee development of monthly reserve estimates and quarterly forecasts
  • Lead actuarial analysts in developing data to support claims reserves and assumptions development
  • Work in a cross-functional team with actuaries, accountants, and finance to ensure that financial results are produced correctly and on-time
  • Communicate reserving and forecasting results to senior management and provide explanations for unexpected changes
  • Assist with non-standard requests, ad hoc questions, and review of model outputs
  • Analyze and interpret the key drivers of health care trends
  • Design actuarial reports and analytics
  • Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
  • Design and run complex data programs as you perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
  • Collaborate across Actuarial and HCE team and other departments at OptumHealth
  • Serve as key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Direct and review work of analysts in the department
  • Communicate findings to leadership

You should be ready to demonstrate your master actuarial and leadership skills in a highly complex and matrixed health care environment. You will be challenged with becoming a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in your area of expertise while helping to drive business results.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 plus actuarial exams passed
  • 4+ years of professional Actuarial experience
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry
  • Experience collaborating across teams
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel
  • Proficiency with databases: SQL (Structured Query Language), SAS (Statistical Analysis System), or Microsoft Access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries)
  • FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience
  • Experience with calculating Claim Reserves, including Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) liabilities
  • Experience in Medicare Advantage
  • Staff management experience
  • Advanced proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
