Job Description (General Summary)

Intralox, L.L.C., the world leader in conveyor equipment solutions utilizing modular plastic conveyor belts, is seeking a Technical (LifeCycle) Services Controls Engineering Manager at our Baltimore, MD office.

Intralox Equipment specializes in turnkey solutions for the logistics and Material Handling Industry. Intralox works closely with our customers, determining their needs while discovering where Intralox can bring significant value for them. Such activities include design, engineering, manufacturing, installing, commissioning, training, and supporting conveyance and sortation solutions.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls Manager to lead our team of controls engineers and automation specialists supporting customers in North America. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the controls team, ensuring efficient and effective performance, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

The Controls Manager must have familiarity with Industry standards with a variety of the field concepts, best practices, and procedures. Candidates will be expected to use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, perform a variety of complicated tasks, and have a wide degree of creativity.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • In coordination with the Technical Services Account Team Leader(s) and the Commercial Account Teams, set and align the vision, mission, and goals for the LifeCycle Services' Controls Engineering team, ensuring proactive, structured execution that supports Intralox's innovation and service strategies.
  • Lead a high-performing team responsible for supporting electrical and control systems for Intralox's Activated Roller Belt (ARB) products.
  • Foster a culture of mentorship, continuous learning, and technical excellence grounded in the Laitram Business Philosophy.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for controls-related issues, modeling problem-solving approaches and knowledge sharing that strengthen both team capability and customer trust.
Team Management & Development
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop Controls engineers and Automation Specialists, ensuring each hire is equipped for long-term growth.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review assignments, utilization, lessons learned, and ensure technical knowledge transfer.
  • Hold regular one-on-one Touch Bases to identify growth opportunities, plan targeted training, and set personalized development goals.
  • Evaluate and track team skills using SkillsBase, identifying gaps and designing structured training programs to close them.
  • Provide direct mentoring and coaching to future leaders, using technical expertise to guide engineers in complex troubleshooting, project execution, and customer engagement.
  • Deliver feedback through mid-year and year-end reviews with an emphasis on professional growth, leadership potential, and technical mastery.
  • Manage and schedule on-call service rotations while using these opportunities as practical training experiences for engineers.
Operational Excellence
  • Conduct capacity planning and resource allocation with a dual focus on project delivery and skill development opportunities.
  • Oversee licensing, tools, and virtual environments for software such as Rockwell, Siemens, and Beckhoff/TwinCAT, while training engineers on best practices for these platforms.
  • Monitor troubleshooting cases, ensuring not only effective resolution but also documentation and knowledge sharing to build collective expertise.
  • Collaborate across Sales, Product Management, Product Engineering, Application Engineering, and Global Engineering Standards to align priorities, while mentoring engineers on cross-functional engagement.
Customer Engagement
  • Interact directly with customers to provide services, upgrades, and training, while developing engineers' customer-facing skills through shadowing and guided participation.
  • Serve as a trusted technical partner, demonstrating advanced Controls Engineering expertise and modeling how to build strong, long-term customer relationships.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy
  • Participate in strategic and business planning activities, ensuring Controls Engineering initiatives tie directly to company goals.
  • Develop and implement strategies that improve team performance, responsiveness, and training effectiveness.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by involving engineers in identifying inefficiencies and implementing best practices that enhance both service delivery and their technical maturity.
  • Stay at the forefront of automation and controls technology, sharing new insights and safety standards with the team to maintain Intralox's leadership in the industry.
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience and 3 years of Leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to bridge strategic vision with tactical execution, aligning technical capabilities with business needs.
  • Strong track record in people development, especially coaching & mentoring.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage customers, executives, and cross-functional partners under pressure.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and results-driven, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • ~30% domestic & international travel.
Desired:
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Beckhoff/TwinCAT, MS Office, MS Dynamics CRM, Windchill PLM, Solidworks PDM, and ERP systems such as Oracle and SAP.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, UL508A standards and related regulations.
  • Leadership experience within the controls or automation industry.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Intralox considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training and key skills. The position is eligible for one of the following: commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to the terms of those plans
Salary Range $120,000 to $234,400.
