What Your Job Will Be Like

The Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) Project Management and System Engineering Org 06765 is seeking an energetic, results-oriented, and dedicated System Engineer. The selected candidate will collaborate with our design and system qualification teams to plan and execute verification of design requirements. You can expect to be engaged to lead or participate in challenging issue resolution as the project moves into the design qualification phase. In this role, you will have the opportunity to achieve as an individual and team contributor and gain new skills. The Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) program is baselined to meet First Production Unit (FPU) in 2029. Join us to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!

On any given day you will be called upon to:

  • Maintain the baseline for system-level documentation including requirements, environments, interface control, and CONOPs
  • Coordinate and support preparations of project reviews; review guidance, technical review and presentations
  • Execute requirements compliance assessments and lead/support non-compliance resolution/disposition
  • Work across teams on system and subsystem issues and assessments
  • Collaborate with Design, System Qualification and Quality teams to refine requirements verification approaches and support qualification activities
  • Generate verification reports as qualification events complete, track verification status
  • Participate in critical project processes (baseline, change control, nonconformance, etc.)
  • Define and provide status of system engineering activities
  • Specialty engineering coordination: Safety, Trust, Vulnerability, Cyber, Reliability, Parts, Materials and Processes, Surveillance, and Human Factors
  • Engage with a broad range of internal Sandia organizational partners, including Weapon Systems, test and analysis groups, and the Production Agency

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS clearance
Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D S&E, Systems Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO).
  • Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • M.S. in System Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or similar STEM field
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements flow down, interface definition and verification planning
  • Comprehensive knowledge of system engineering processes, products and tools
  • Demonstrated strong organization and planning skills
  • Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic with a keen focus on customer service
  • Experience working with design teams to realize product
About Our Team

The MGT Project Management and System Engineering Org 06765 is responsible for establishing and leading project management and system engineering processes and deliverables required to enable the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) which is the next-generation replacement for the existing Safeguard Transporter (SGT). The MGT will assure the safety and security of cargo and containers, protect the public, meet nuclear explosive safety requirements associated with accident scenarios and reduce the risk to new security threats. The MGT is a highly complex system with demanding technical, safety, and security performance requirements.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
