What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Highway Practice! A flexible/hybrid work environment is applicable to this position, with the reporting office being any of GFT's Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia offices.

What you'll be challenged to do:
The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 12 years of progressive design experience in roadway engineering design for highway, interchange, and/or urban roadway design services to public clients. Experience should consist of the development and leading of the development of roadway design plan production work well in a team environment while independently applying advanced concepts and principles of engineering to resolve project issues on highway projects. Serves as a technical specialist in analyzing roadway and drainage projects, establishing design criteria and executing designs. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day execution of assigned projects, mentoring less experienced staff, managing tasks, and technical interfacing with clients.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Leads the development of project design concepts and criteria and researches large or complex project elements.
  • Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating large or complex engineering assignments.
  • Responsible for working within the project team with experience for highway and to gain a working knowledge of other disciplines such as transit, bridge, geotechnical, civil/site and environmental.
  • Acts as technical specialist in the development of proposals.
  • May develop scopes of work and cost estimates independently.
  • Provides management of highway personnel for a project.
  • Provides QA/QC reviews.
  • Responsible for working closely with clients for development of technically sound solutions and client satisfaction.
  • Responsible to work on multiple concurrent assignments and time management.
  • Responsible for executing the project scope of work and managing the technical development of the work and maintaining the budget and schedule.
  • Representing GFT at industry and professional events.
Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's Degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer License and ability to obtain multiple jurisdictions
  • 12+ years of applicable experience
  • Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Expertise with CADD
  • Expertise with geometry and drainage software
  • Expertise with permits required for transportation projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to lead client presentations

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $160,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
