Interstates-a recognized leader in electrical engineering, construction, and automation-is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Business Development Representative to drive growth and cultivate lasting client partnerships across Iowa and the Midwest.

As a senior member of our growth team, you'll engage influential industry players, develop high-value solutions, and help us transform the way industrial projects succeed.

What You'll Do:



  • Build & Expand Relationships
  • Develop and nurture deep connections with decision-makers in manufacturing, processing, and industrial sectors. Be a trusted consultant and strategic partner.
  • Drive Revenue & Secure Major Projects Identify new business opportunities, qualify prospects, and lead the pursuit of large-scale or complex contracts-supported by an experienced technical team.
  • Lead Strategic Solutions Collaborate cross-functionally to shape tailored proposals that address clients' technical, operational, and business challenges. Effectively communicate Interstates' value as a true differentiator.
  • Market Intelligence Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging technologies. Use your insights to help us evolve and refine our go-to-market approach.
  • Represent Interstates Attend industry events, trade shows, and client meetings throughout Iowa and the Midwest-serving as a passionate ambassador of our mission and values.


Who Thrives in This Role:



  • Experienced B2B Professional Minimum of 5 years' success in value-driven sales, business development, or account management, with a focus on industrial construction, engineering, or adjacent technical fields.
  • Strategic and Consultative Seller Adept at navigating complex sales cycles, crafting solutions, and engaging multiple stakeholders (including C-suite and operations leaders) in large organizations.
  • Industry Insider Familiarity with project delivery in industrial environments-electrical, controls, automation, MEP, or related background is highly valuable.
  • Self-Starter & Influencer Demonstrated track record of independent success: building pipelines, closing significant deals, and managing long-term client relationships.
  • Adaptable Team Player Excels in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and thrives on innovation and continuous learning.


Core Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree preferred (Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar)
  • 5+ years of B2B business development experience
  • Prior sales or account management experience in industrial construction, automation, engineering, or similar sectors strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout Iowa and neighboring states


Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $80,000-115,000. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.

Location: This role is based in or near South Dakota and Minnesota (Office or Hybrid).

Travel: This role requires frequent travel 50- 75% across the Midwest for client and industry meetings.
