Position Summary

The Department of Humanities, Social Science, and Communication (HSC) at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of User Experience (UX).

We are seeking a dynamic educator and practitioner to help shape our growing undergraduate UX program, mentor students, and connect academic learning with industry practice. This position is ideal for new PhD graduates, junior faculty, and industry professionals eager to transition into higher education. Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Deliver engaging undergraduate UX courses with a focus on hands-on, applied learning.
  • Curriculum Development: Shape and refine the undergraduate UX curriculum.
  • Mentorship: Guide UX majors in their academic and career development.
  • Recruitment: Contribute to outreach and student recruitment activities.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in a related field, such as UX or design (UX, HCD, HCI, multimedia/interactive design), technology (information or computer science), or human behavior (human factors, cognitive psychology). (Ph.D. preferred)
  • Experience: One or more of the following: UX design, human-centered design, interaction/interface design, digital media, conversation design.
  • Teaching: Evidence of potential for teaching excellence (e.g., teaching, training, guest lecturing, or mentoring experience). Ability to integrate emerging technologies into UX teaching and practice.
  • Commitment: Strong dedication to undergraduate teaching, mentorship, and inclusive design.
  • Collaboration: Willingness to work across disciplines (e.g., engineering, business, nursing, computer science).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Technology & Tools: Experience with 2D/3D prototyping tools and emerging technologies, including generative AI and AI-driven design practices.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong skills for working effectively with students, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Professional Practice: Relevant industry or professional experience in UX or related fields.
