The Manager for the Teaching & Learning Strategist in Higher Ed leads a cross-disciplinary team of pedagogical experts who build relationships among educators to grow our business and surface real-world teaching challenges to inform Macmillan Learning's digital solutions. This leader bridges pedagogy and business acumen, ensuring that instructor and learner needs inform decision-making across the organization. The Manager develops and coaches Teaching & Learning Strategists, guiding them in best practices for driving impact with their work and gathering insights that shape both investment and go-to-market strategy. This role collaborates closely with Program Managers and Directors to enable the Teaching & Learning Strategists to best support the business needs of the program team. In addition, the Manager partners with Product, Sales, Marketing, and Learning Science & Research to align pedagogical perspectives with business outcomes and advance Macmillan's position as a trusted thought leader in higher education.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Insight Leadership



  • Direct the Teaching & Learning Strategists' efforts to uncover, synthesize, and communicate pedagogical insights that inform investment and market strategy.
  • Define and prioritize problems to solve across disciplines and markets, ensuring the most pressing instructor and student needs are surfaced.
  • Partner with Program and Product leadership to translate field insights into actionable recommendations that shape product roadmaps and adoption strategies.


Instructor Ecosystem Development



  • Oversee the cultivation of instructor relationships across disciplines, ensuring broad representation of pedagogical perspectives.
  • Support team members in building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, key faculty partners, and advocates in partnership with the Program and Marketing teams.


Go-to-Market Enablement



  • Collaborate with leaders in the Sales, Marketing, Product, and Program teams to ensure pedagogical insights inform go-to-market strategies and messaging.
  • Equip customer-facing teams with training and narratives that connect pedagogy to adoption, retention, and learning impact. Provide oversight and strategic input for class tests, pilots, and sales tools to ensure pedagogical integrity and intended business impact.
  • Serve as a pedagogical advisor for strategic customer engagements and executive-level presentations.


Market Intelligence



  • Lead horizon scanning for emerging instructional trends, technology innovations, and best practices in teaching and learning, identifying opportunities to differentiate through pedagogical design.
  • Translate competitor and market intelligence into actionable insights that inform strategic direction.
  • Evaluate external partnerships, research collaborations, and professional networks that can enhance Macmillan's pedagogical credibility and reach.


Team and Thought Leadership



  • Lead, mentor, and empower the Teaching & Learning Strategists to expand their product knowledge, business expertise, communication skills, and strategic impact. Create structures for feedback, professional development, and shared learning across the team.
  • Model inclusive leadership that values diverse pedagogical perspectives and encourages innovation.
  • Represent Macmillan Learning's pedagogical leadership internally and externally through strategic initiatives, presentations, and partnerships.


Required Qualifications:



  • Combination of Education & Relevant Experience.
  • Curriculum design experience.
  • Experience successfully communicating complex information verbally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience developing teams in newly established roles within a business.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Teaching experience in a higher education context.
  • Experience supporting customers using learning management or courseware solutions.
  • Passion for exploring how emerging technologies (such as AI, AR/VR, or adaptive learning systems) can be thoughtfully applied in higher education settings.
  • Comfort navigating and driving change within evolving, fast-paced environments where creativity and curiosity are valued.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to challenge the status quo in service of better learner or instructor outcomes.
  • Active engagement in thought leadership, research, or professional networks related to innovation in teaching and learning.


Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000

Exemption Status: Exempt

Physical Requirements:

Requires periods of close concentration; must be able to multi-task; must be able to travel occasionally; work overtime - more than 40 hours a week - regularly, as needed.

The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
