The Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Scientist to work in the lab of Dr. Petri. The Research Scientist will investigate the role of macrophages in Type 2 immunity and their contribution to host defense during Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). They will use murine models of CDI, flow cytometry, transcriptional and functional assays to define the mechanisms by which Type 2-driven macrophage responses promote mucosal protection. The Research Scientist will also contribute to related research projects in the lab including work with CDI patient samples. Additionally, they will also contribute to lab projects on viral pneumonia currently under planning. Maintenance of experimental records as per university guidelines, regular presentations at meetings and conferences and manuscript writing are expected responsibilities in this position. Additional responsibilities may include supervision of lab techs and helping with team projects in the lab. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications Requires a doctoral degree in Microbiology/Immunology or related field or master's degree with significant experience Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt-level, benefited position. Learn more about UVA benefits. This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability. Continued employment will depend on department need and funding.
