Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Lead Process Engineer to join our talented team at our office located in Burlington, Massachusetts.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes and supporting utilities on a scale that can range from a developmental pilot plant to full commercial production.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Produces conceptual design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Material and Energy Balances.
  • Estimates utility requirements for new manufacturing processes, design utilities generation, and distribution systems.
  • Generates Process P&IDs (preferably on AutoCAD) that include controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions, if appropriate.
  • Generates P&IDs for critical utility systems, such as WFI, USP Purified water, and Clean Steam.
  • Performs engineering studies for expanding, improving, or automating existing facilities with limited supervision.
  • Produces specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Makes use of and participates in the development of company design and production tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
  • Assumes ownership of the process-related aspects of a portion of a large project or an entire small project, and provides technical support to the design team.
  • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience and 5+ years in process design, preferably in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of cGMPs as they affect process design and equipment specification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Has design and operations experience in pharmaceutical facilities, which could include Biologic, Vaccine, API (organic synthesis), oral (OSD), and parenteral (Aseptic) drug products.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.

Travel

  • This position will have 5-20% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client's location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit Client sites and will be required to adhere to stated safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.

Safety

  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.
