Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The principal mission of the Institute for the Study of the Americas ( ISA) is to support the continual development of Latin American studies as it has evolved at Carolina for the past one hundred years. ISA seeks to expand the conceptual scope of Latin American studies to include the diasporic dimensions of Latin American peoples, with particular attention to the expanding Latin American presence in the United States. ISA is committed to the advancement of scholarly research, curriculum development, and innovative institutional initiatives consistent with the tradition of academic excellence at
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In discharge of its mission within a public university, furthermore, ISA is dedicated to the expansion of the outreach facet of Latin American studies into the public provenance, to share its intellectual resources and instructional assets with state and local government agencies, private sector organizations, and the public at large as a way to provide the knowledge and develop the expertise and experience with which to inform enlightened public policy.
Position Summary
The Institute for the Study of the Americas at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to fill one (1) Teaching Assistant Professor position for one (1) Latin American Studies course taking place January 7, 2026 - May 9, 2026. This is a fixed-term temporary faculty position. The successful candidate will be a creative and effective teacher capable of contributing to the University's undergraduate program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD and college level teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Qualified candidates should have a record of engagement with Latin American and/or Caribbean scholarship. It is preferred that candidates have a minimum of four (4) years college undergraduate level teaching experience.
