Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Energy Engineer or Manager to join our talented team at our office located in Bluebell, PA, or any of our East Coast offices (Burlington, MA, Cherry Hill, NJ, Somerset, NJ, Germantown, MD).

In this role, you will identify and evaluate opportunities in capital project planning and design phases and their contribution toward operational energy, emissions, and water KPIs. Ideally, you are technically and analytically minded and able to articulate ideas and concepts, using research of proven strategies and the latest technologies to guide colleagues and partners toward innovative solutions. You should also understand the nature of change management and be prepared to enthusiastically present ideas and project benefits to both colleagues and clients.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Identifying and clarifying clients' corporate sustainability goals and coordinating the other disciplines' design alignment with the overall project drivers and goals.

  • Energy modeling and managing energy model development and deliverables.

  • Capital project energy benchmarking, planning, and analysis at the campus, building, and system level.

  • Evaluate major plant equipment, utility generation, and MEP and Process systems for energy

    conservation opportunities.

  • Electrification studies, including coordination with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and local Electric Utilities.

  • Architectural and Mechanical/energy-related support for applicable LEED credits.

  • Support energy audits for various facility types.

  • Identification of retrofit/upgrade strategies for HVAC systems to reduce annual energy consumption.

  • Perform Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) to evaluate the total cost of owning, operating, maintaining, and disposing of an asset.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • 7+ years of industry experience in engineering, building science, or project management.

  • 3+ years of experience in energy modeling and LEED Optimized Energy Performance submissions.

  • Experience in complex projects (life sciences or manufacturing sectors experience preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

  • Strong written and verbal skills, able to communicate in a concise, clear, and compelling manner (role will be client-facing).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or professional certificate in a related field.

  • Experience in carbon accounting.

  • LEED AP with specialty or greater LEED/USGBC/GBCI involvement.

  • CEM or other energy-focused certification.

  • CxA or other commissioning certification.

  • Experience with IES VE.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.
