Organizational Unit Overview |
Laupus Health Sciences Library provides information services and resources in direct support of ECU's Health Sciences Colleges and Schools, and all students, staff, and faculty therein. Laupus Library also provides expert consultations with professional librarians and staff for a variety of information, research support, and instructional support needs.
The Laupus Health Sciences Library Access Services department is responsible for overseeing the circulation of Laupus Library materials, operates a reserve collection for course support, maintains, manages, and circulates the library's audiovisual collection including videos, audio cassettes, anatomical models, slides, charts, microfilm, etc. |
Job Duties |
Service Desk: Provide excellent customer service while assisting patrons at the library Service Desk. Assistance may include but is not limited to checking library items in and out of circulation, basic clerical work, answering telephones, troubleshooting basic computer or software questions and, accepting payments for fines or fees for services, providing basic assistance for patrons in need of finding books, renewing library checked-out materials, accessing research databases and other online library resources. Provides general reference assistance and refers patrons to the appropriate liaison when necessary.
User Assessment and Data Analysis: Coordinate user assessment. Aggregate user data, produce professional reports and make evidence-based recommendations for improvement. Prepare data visualizations using contemporary software applications. Design, implement and analyze surveys, focus groups and usage data. Work closely with Laupus Liaisons,
ECU student groups and other colleagues. Assist in developing strategies for positive change in usage patterns and for ensuring excellence in customer service. Coordinate practices for the collection, storage, and dissemination of other statistics in User Services, including education statistics and reference/service desk statistics.
User Engagement and Communications: Coordinate user experience activities. Liaise with the Health Sciences Student Advisory Board. Develop engagement strategies that enhance user satisfaction, library visibility and support for library programs. Plan and implement student outreach programs and activities to increase awareness and use of library services and spaces. Serves as liaison to student services centers and organizations across
ECU. Coordinate the library's social media presence and communications. Work closely with
ECU Marketing & Communications and with
ECU Creative Services as needed.
Committee Service and Other Duties as Assigned - The person in this position may serve on library and university committees, taskforces, and projects. The person may also be asked to perform other duties. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
License or Certification required by statute or regulation |
None |
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
Experience in library services, marketing, user assessment and engagement, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Demonstrated experience with assessment, data analysis, student engagement, or outreach activities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with data visualization tools.
Demonstrated experience coordinating student-oriented programs.
Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures, ability to enforce rules, and perform work requiring considerable detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service and troubleshoot basic technology issues. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with library users and library personnel.
Demonstrated graphic design experience.
Ability to work consistently and reliably with minimal supervision. |
