Work Type: Hybrid - 3 days onsite (Mon/Wed/Thu)

Location: Carlsbad, CA 92008

Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation: Up to $74/hour

Job Type: Long Term Contact, possible temp-to-hire depending on performance and budget.

About the Role

The Principal Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and compliance programs that align with all applicable regulations and company policies. This role delivers direct occupational healthcare services, case management, and preventive health initiatives to support employee well-being, minimize workplace injuries, and promote a safe and productive work environment.

You will serve as a key clinical resource and advisor to management, focusing on health risk assessment, ergonomics, and compliance with regulatory standards. The position requires strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and a proactive approach to workplace health and safety.

Key Responsibilities



  • Serve as a highly visible health resource for employees and management, emphasizing risk reduction, injury prevention, and ergonomic improvement.
  • Administer and monitor medical surveillance programs, field staff medical credentialing, and associated recordkeeping.
  • Provide onsite clinical services including triage, first aid, and coordination of care for occupational injuries, illnesses, and exposures.
  • Manage confidential employee medical records in compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Oversee workers' compensation cases, collaborating with third-party case managers, providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support EHS initiatives through data collection, injury tracking, and continuous improvement of safety programs.
  • Coordinate vendor services for hearing tests, first aid and CPR/AED training, blood drives, and first aid kit replenishment.
  • Participate in medical emergency response and ergonomics programs, conducting ergonomic assessments and facilitating corrective actions.
  • Administer the Bloodborne Pathogen Program and related training.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and CA Workers' Compensation requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between employees, safety teams, and management regarding potential health risks and exposure-related concerns.
  • Uphold quality and safety standards in all activities, ensuring compliance with the organization's Quality Policy.



Quality Systems Responsibilities

Integrate quality into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.

Basic Qualifications



  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
  • Minimum 5 years of occupational health experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of CA Workers' Compensation laws, OSHA standards, and workplace injury recordkeeping.
  • Proven ability to work independently, set priorities, and drive results with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems; Cority experience preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.



Preferred Qualifications



  • COHN or COHN-S certification.
  • Experience in ergonomic injury prevention or risk reduction in manufacturing, laboratory, or office environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Additional occupational health or safety-related certifications.



The base pay range above represents the low and high end of the base compensation range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
