Description Leidos is seeking an exceptional and motivated R&D Data Product Manager to work alongside world class engineers and researchers supporting the mission of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). This work will involve a multi-disciplinary, scientific, and technically oriented national laboratory team, with participation alongside other data scientists, engineers, geoscientists, material scientists, and computer scientists that produces technological solutions for America's energy challenges. Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of agile, community-based, enterprise-wide R&D data governance, collection, management, and sharing systems capable of supporting the entire data lifecycle across multiple projects.
- Lead the development of AI/ML ready R&D data formats and criteria to improve the search and identification of data within NETL's R&D data stores. Improve user interaction with NETL's R&D data stores and resources within it. Support adherence to DOE export control and data rights policies for R&D efforts.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including geologists, geographers, data scientists, computer scientists, environmental scientists, and other researchers to assist each other in accomplishing project related tasks.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients.
- Provide weekly and monthly technical updates to research team members and project management.
- Provide leadership and expertise on R&D projects including delegation to team members and communication of project milestone status to management.
- Act as liaison between researchers and NETL's IT technicians, architects, and cyber-security experts.
- Lead development of R&D tools, models, and/or applications that integrate with different data storage frameworks and databases.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, data science, geography or related field with 11+ years of equivalent practical experience working in a laboratory or industrial environment or a Master's degree environmental science, data science, geography or related field with 9+ years of equivalent practical experience working in a laboratory or industrial environment
- Advanced knowledge and skills in data management, data processing, and generating high-impact data visualizations.
- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team composed of geologists/geoscientists, data scientists, computer engineers, and other technical staff.
- Experience architecting and implementing data management systems.
- Experience creating data pipelines and data models that support technical research management needs.
- Experience managing time effectively; experience developing and meeting project milestones with little oversight.
- Clear and effective communication, both in writing and in person.
- Comfortable with Python, SQL, or one graph query language.
- Experience in basic ETL pipeline construction and flow.
- Experience in basic data cleaning and normalization practices.
- Experience with Neo4j, ArangoDB, Postgres or other relational and graph database management systems.
- U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in environmental science, data science, geography or related field.
- Technical knowledge of data types, formats and management needs common to Critical Minerals and Materials (e.g., geology, geochemistry, metallurgical, remote sensing, GIS).
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably GCP.
- Experience with Arcgis Enterprise or Pro.
- Experience with Github or git commands.
- Experience with Anthos, Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience working for a U.S. national laboratory or as a research site-support contractor (or experience as a consultant).
Salary Range for this position: $120K to $135K Come break things (in a good way). Then build them smarter. We're the tech company everyone calls when things get weird.
