Job Description: The Director of Instructional Technology provides innovative leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional technology across Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). The Director ensures that instructional technology practices align with the division's strategic plan and technology plan. The Director of Instructional Technology is a member of the Technology Services leadership team, supervises the Technology Integration Specialists, advances digital equity, and builds staff capacity to use technology effectively, ethically, and responsibly. The Director collaborates with division leaders, school administrators, and instructional staff to create an environment for equitable and innovative teaching and learning, and promote student data privacy. This role reports to the Chief Information Officer. Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree required.
- Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education Postgraduate Professional license required, with the K-12 Administration and Supervision endorsement required, or the ability to obtain the endorsement.
- Experience: At least 3 years of teaching experience and 5 years of experience with educational technology. Leadership or supervisory experience in a public or private school system preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the implementation of the ACPS Technology Plan with a focus on teaching, learning, and digital equity.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate large-scale technology programs, ensuring alignment with the division's instructional and strategic goals.
- Provide leadership in the implementation of artificial intelligence across ACPS based on the Division's guiding principles and policies.
- Supervise the Technology Integration Specialists team.
- Collaborate with Teaching, Learning, and Leadership to implement innovative practices in ACPS classrooms.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to effectively manage cross-functional teams.
- Oversee the design and delivery of professional development programs that build staff capacity in instructional technology, digital citizenship, and data privacy.
- Collaborate with the Director of Infrastructure and Support Services and the Director of Education and Business Applications to ensure a cohesive experience for ACPS staff and families.
- Oversee 1:1 learning program to ensure equitable access to devices, resources, and opportunities.
- Lead digital citizenship efforts in ACPS.
- Vet instructional technology tools used in ACPS and manage the ACPS instructional technology application library.
- Partner with instructional leaders to embed technology into curriculum and instruction in ways that are student-centered and culturally responsive.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and division policies (FERPA, COPPA, CIPA).
- Collaborate with Technology Services teams on cybersecurity preparedness, instructional tool adoption, and vendor compliance.
- Represent ACPS in local, state, and national professional networks.
