Packaging Lead

Responsibilities

* Team Leadership: Prioritize and assign daily tasks to team members (e.g., Packers 1 and Packers 2) to meet production schedules and deadlines.

* Training and Mentorship: Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new and less experienced packagers, ensuring proper packing techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards are followed.

* Quality Control: Conduct visual inspections and checks to ensure all products are packed and labeled correctly before being moved to the next stage.

* Workflow Management: Monitor the packaging line to identify and resolve bottlenecks or operational issues, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.

* Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot packaging machinery such as sealers, labelers, and palletizers, and escalate major issues to maintenance.

* Documentation and Reporting: Accurately complete all required production and inspection logs and reports, and shipping documents.

* Safety and Compliance: Enforce all company safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and organized work area.

* Inventory Management: Track and monitor inventory levels of packaging materials (e.g., boxes, tape, labels) and communicate any shortages to the appropriate personnel.

* Communication: Act as a communication bridge between the packaging team and management, providing updates on production status, challenges, and solutions.

Qualifications

* High school diploma or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.

* Experience in regulated environments such as ISO 13485 or FDA Part 820 preferred.

* Proven experience as a Packager 2 or in a similar skilled packaging or warehouse role.

* Prior experience in a leadership, team lead, or supervisory role is required.

* Strong knowledge of packaging processes, equipment, and quality standards.

* Ability to read and interpret work orders, and packing specifications.

* Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Basic computer skills for data entry and using inventory systems.

* Experience operating a forklift or pallet jack is a plus.

Physical requirements

* Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

* Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving packages, typically up to 50 pounds.

* Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

* Comfortable working in a warehouse or production environment, which may be noisy or have temperature variations.
