Position Purpose

The Sr Automated Operations Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end performance and strategic optimization of Petco's Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AutoStore). This role ensures the system is maintained at peak performance, supports business throughput objectives, and operates at the lowest total cost of ownership. The Sr Automated Operations Analyst will be the subject matter expert in AutoStore operations, slotting strategy, maintenance requirements, and system integration with upstream and downstream processes.

Essential Job Functions:

The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:

* Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all stakeholders, ensuring alignment with company objectives.

* Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to maintain optimal system performance.

* Prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring timely execution and alignment with business needs.

* Research, analyze, and develop business cases to support system capability enhancements.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own the performance, quality, and cost of ownership of the company's AutoStore ASRS system.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve slotting strategies to optimize space utilization, pick efficiency, and replenishment logic.
  • Monitor and manage system throughput, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
  • Partner with maintenance teams and vendors to ensure scheduled and preventative maintenance plans are executed and system uptime is maximized.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for system faults, degradation, or unplanned downtime.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, IT, Operations, and Inventory Control to ensure seamless integration with WMS and other business systems.
  • Own key performance indicators (KPIs) related to ASRS system health, efficiency, capacity utilization, and service level.
  • Support capital planning and long-term automation strategy by providing insights on performance trends and upgrade opportunities.
  • Train and develop site-level stakeholders on AutoStore best practices, safety procedures, and system utilization.
  • Act as a liaison with AutoStore vendor support teams and integrators to ensure alignment on system improvements, software upgrades, and enhancement opportunities.

Nature of Supervision

This role operates with a high level of autonomy, using deep expertise to drive initiatives forward with minimal guidance. Large-scale projects and strategic decisions will be reviewed in collaboration with senior leadership.

Planning and Problem Solving

The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing multiple assignments, meeting tight deadlines, and managing complex initiatives that impact system efficiency, cost structures, and service levels.

Impact

Decisions and recommendations in this role directly influence system operations, capital investments, and overall site performance. The ability to optimize the systems capabilities development will impact company profitability and operational resilience.

Supervisory Responsibility

While this position may not have direct reports, it involves leading cross-functional teams, managing external partners, and providing guidance to internal stakeholders on key supply chain initiatives.

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with warehouse automation or ASRS systems; direct experience with AutoStore strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of slotting logic, system throughput, preventative maintenance, and operational constraints within an ASRS.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical systems and analyze complex performance data.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, including the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, WMS systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related experience
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement background.
  • Experience working with AutoStore Integrator software platforms (e.g., Exacta).
  • Familiarity with maintenance scheduling systems (e.g., CMMS).

Travel

Occasional travel may be required for training or other project implementations but is never expected to exceed 25%.

Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced distribution and automation environment. Occasional travel may be required to support project implementations or system support at other facilities.

Contacts

Frequent interaction with senior management, supply chain associates, IT, Finance, Procurement, and external partners. Communication will include strategic planning, project coordination, vendor negotiations, and performance analysis.

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
