The Director of HR Data Management leads the strategy and maintenance of HR data governance, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and compliance. This role collaborates with HR, IT, Finance, and Audit teams to oversee audit processes, data quality, documentation, and the HR Data Governance Council. Responsibilities include driving improvements in data management, ensuring audit readiness, and integrating data governance throughout the organization. Candidates should have strong experience in data governance, leadership, project management, and communication.

Responsibilities of the Director & Team:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Advance and operationalize the existing HR data governance strategy in alignment with enterprise data governance frameworks.

  • Lead the HR Data Governance Council, including meeting facilitation, agenda setting, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for governance-related issues and ensure alignment with enterprise priorities.

  • Champion data stewardship and governance best practices across HR and partner functions.

Data Quality, Compliance & Audit Management

  • Oversee the resolution of complex data quality issues, including root cause analysis and systemic remediation.

  • Maintain and evolve documentation including data standards, security profiles, field dictionaries, and metrics guides.

  • Project manage data quality issue resolution, leading issue identification, root cause analysis, data correction efforts and upstream system improvements for all data quality issues identified and prioritized.

HR Data Inventory & Lifecycle Management

  • Manage the HR data catalog, ensuring accurate tagging, classification, and lifecycle tracking - including creating and maintaining documents for standards of use, security guidelines and field dictionaries

  • Ensure data completeness, consistency, and adherence to governance standards across all HR systems (e.g., Workday).

  • Conduct regular quality assessments and partner with data owners to maintain data integrity.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead a team of four (including Workday auditors and new hires), providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance oversight.

  • Collaborate with HR, IT, Payroll, and Finance to ensure alignment on data governance goals and execution.

  • Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in data management practices.

Minimum Job Requirements

Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 12+ years of professional experience and 4+ years of management experience.

Critical Skills

-Deep understanding of HR data & fields

- In-depth understanding of data governance principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.

- Excellent project management skills, with a track record of successfully leading and driving resolution of complex data-related issues.

- Proficiency in data analysis and quality assessment techniques.

- Experience with HR systems (e.g., Workday) and data management tools.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships and influence stakeholders at all levels.

- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

- Experience working with auditors and ensuring compliance with data-related regulations and policies.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$136,300 - $227,100
