Job Summary
-
The Senior CPS Specialist (evening team) will serve as a senior lead within the Child Protective Services program, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and training to Family Services Specialists and supervising interns on a dynamic team dedicated to protecting our most vulnerable children and families. This position plays a key role in emergency crisis response and intervention, including investigating serious allegations of abuse or neglect such as sexual abuse, human trafficking, and out-of-family investigations. The Senior Specialist conducts comprehensive safety and risk assessments of children and families by interviewing children, parents/guardians, and collateral contacts. Additionally, the role requires developing and implementing safety and service plans that promote child well-being while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and regulations.
Beyond casework, the Senior Specialist will:
- Provide coaching and training to colleagues by explaining program policies and procedures.
- Serve as acting supervisor in the supervisor's absence.
- Support a positive, team-oriented environment by encouraging productivity, collaboration, and accountability.
This position is ideal for an experienced Child Protective Services professional who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, values trauma-informed and strengths-based practice, and is committed to safeguarding children while supporting families. This role also requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure timely response to after-hours CPS emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Typical Working hours: 1pm-9:30pm. This position is eligible for a $3,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree required, with major coursework in a Human Services field preferred; AND, three (3) years of directly related experience in a human services area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or a closely related Human Services field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct Child Protective Services (CPS) experience.
- Strong knowledge of CPS policies, procedures, and state regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support both new and experienced staff.
- Experience working within local government human services systems.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing and application of trauma-informed practices.
- Extensive knowledge of social service systems for children, families, and adults, with a trauma-informed and strengths-based philosophy.
- Bilingual skills.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

- Pass pre-employment background checks including criminal, fingerprinting, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV checks.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
- Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for assigned position. Obtain specific training such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for assigned area.
- Successful candidates must be available for duty beyond the normal workday, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform the functions of the position.
- This position is considered essential personnel and will require reporting to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency (e.g., weather, transportation, disaster).
