PhD Epidemiologist - Advanced HIV Research

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD-level Epidemiologist with strong expertise in biostatistical methods and database management to support clinical and laboratory-based research in the field of advanced HIV disease and opportunistic infections. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of applying rigorous epidemiologic and statistical approaches to complex datasets, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and advancing knowledge in pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of opportunistic infections related to advanced HIV.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement statistical analyses for clinical trials, cohort studies, and laboratory-based investigations related to HIV and opportunistic infections.

Develop and apply advanced epidemiological methods to assess disease burden, risk factors, and outcomes in populations affected by advanced HIV disease.

Collaborate with investigators, clinicians, and laboratory scientists to integrate epidemiological and biostatistical perspectives into study design and interpretation.

Work collaboratively with the existing biostatistical team on data management, quality control, and reproducible analytic pipelines for large and complex datasets, including clinical and laboratory data.

Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant applications, and conference presentations by providing robust statistical and epidemiological expertise.

Mentor junior researchers, trainees, and staff in epidemiology and biostatistics.

Stay current with advances in HIV research, epidemiologic methods, and statistical tools to ensure cutting-edge approaches are applied.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Must be documented on all application materials
PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a closely related field with substantial research and publication records

Demonstrated expertise in advanced statistical methods, including survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis and meta-analysis.

Experience with HIV research, particularly advanced HIV disease and opportunistic infections, strongly preferred.

Experience with RedCap.

Proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, or Stata; experience with data visualization and reproducible workflows (e.g., R Markdown, Git) is desirable.

Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex statistical findings to diverse audiences.

Collaborative mindset and experience working in multidisciplinary research teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with laboratory-based datasets, biomarker analysis, or integration of clinical and laboratory data.

Familiarity with global health research or work in resource-limited settings.

Knowledge of regulatory and ethical frameworks governing HIV clinical research.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Starting range is $55,952 - $172K, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
