Department Overview

The Accounting and Finance Division supports the company's financial performance by developing innovative ways to save time and money, as well as providing timely and accurate financial reports for strategic business decisions.

Primary Responsibilities

This position is responsible for processing incoming refund payments for deposit to the Regular Business Claims Refund System, Subscriber and Provider Accounts Receivable payments system (ACRE), and Subrogation and Workmen's Compensation file system (RMS). This position may include some or all of the following tasks: researching checks and correspondence received without proper identification; applying payments to accounts receivables; preparing deposits; balancing system totals to daily reports or by batch and total; preparing cash receipts; reconciling daily and monthly reports; matching check copies and documentation to daily reports; prepare related journal entries. This position will assist management with cash management functions, which may include analysis of refunds made by providers, monthly forecasting, identification of overpayment trends, and process improvements.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Web based, and Mainframe based software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience calculating and working with financial information, including accurately transferring financial information between multiple systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proven problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience working in a production environment and meeting goals
  • Experience performing research and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama system inquiries
  • Experience operating a ten-key adding machine is preferred
  • Experience opening, responding to, and closing inquiries (i.e. CSD, Claims created INQs, Claims experience of all types, including Cross, Shield, Provider, and subscriber) is preferred
  • Knowledge of the operating functions of various Company departments, including one or more of the following areas is preferred: Accounting, Subrogation, Enrollment Services Department, Medicare Claims, Regular Business Claims, Provider Data, and Provider Service areas
  • Experience using the following transactions is preferred: RC01 and RA12
  • Experience using the following systems is preferred: Regular Business Claims Refund System, RMS, MRO, and NAVIGATOR, CBMS, Workday, Excel, MMS
  • Experience in refund processing involving medical insurance claims or financial transactions strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with business practices, procedures, and guidelines of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama preferred
Work Location

The work location for this position will be hybrid (onsite/remote). Position is located in Birmingham, AL.
