The Smart Meter Operations Analyst is responsible for monitoring the meter communication network and understanding and identifying failures impacting meter reads and other meter interrogation issues that need to be investigated. This position would be responsible for independently querying data from the Headend System as well as the Meter Data Management (MDM) system and Customer Information System (CIS) to identify and mitigate issues through desktop analysis, field investigations or other escalation paths to the appropriate groups when necessary. This position will ensure close communications with the IT Meter Applications Team, IT Data Networks Team, the Meter Data Analytics group, and Field Metering from a mitigation perspective. Interaction with other DLC groups will be required when analyzing data for specific customer-related issues.



Location: Hybrid (see below), downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Woods Run Complex



Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Analyze and troubleshoot medium to complex communication issues within C&I and Residential metering. Ensure the meter mesh communication to AMI meters through the OpenWay collection engine headend systems is functioning at an acceptable performance level. Responsible for correcting communication issues or issuing investigation orders for other groups to resolve in the field.
  • Analyze and resolve time-sensitive meter communication-related inquiries received from internal departments.
  • Perform daily Standard Operating Procedures and generate reports that are distributed to the appropriate DLC stakeholders. Perform trending analysis on how the system is performing. Create queries as needed to provide data for exception analysis. Independently modify and run existing SQL queries as necessary to provide data needed to analyze and report on AMI meter exceptions within MDM, CCB, and MWM.
  • Assist with pinging meters and provide time-sensitive information to various stakeholders including but not limited to the storm role
  • Assist with the creation, review, and revision of internal processes and procedures when technologies are updated with new releases.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and open communication with other departments to help resolve simple to complex issues related to meter reading communication and usage prior to billing.
  • Ensure Safety is demonstrated while performing daily work. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Customer Service Organization.

Education and Experience Required:



  • BS in Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline; OR a commensurate combination of education and/or experience required.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience required

  • Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written, to ensure effective and accurate information sharing.
  • Analytical ability to ensure efficient and accurate review of reports, system exceptions, issues and/or errors.
  • Ability to complete concurrent projects to ensure timely, efficient and accurate deadlines are met.



Scope

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one's own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed



Decision Impact

Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.



Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
