Referral Coordinator

Summary:

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for scheduling patient appointments with specialists, therapy providers, and diagnostic testing, ensuring that prior authorizations are obtained when required by the payor. In addition, this position is responsible for documenting the electronic medical record with necessary referral information, flagging and faxing appropriate medical records, and communicating appointment details to patient caregivers. The Referral Coordinator should have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work well under pressure, time management skills, and be self-motivated with a commitment to achieving the best results for the patient.

Required Education & Experience:

• High school graduate or equivalent.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a medical office setting.

• Strong understanding of diversified insurance plans and the Managed Care environment.

• Knowledge of medical coding and terminology.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Basic computer knowledge at a minimum.
