Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona's Entomology Department is looking to fill for two Research Technician II positions to be a part of Dr. Peter C. Ellsworth Group on a part-time basis to explore and discover answers to challenging questions. The Research Technician II develops, facilitates, implements, evaluates, performs, administers and oversees a wide variety of research programs or initiatives. Duties & Responsibilities |
Primary Duties:
- Sets up and performs a variety of lab or field tests and operations.
- Records results, makes observations, analyzes data, and interprets test results.
- Cleans, sterilizes, operates, maintains troubleshoots and repairs equipment, machinery and instruments used for research.
- Refines, adapts, and develops procedures or techniques to fit specific experiment requirements; modifies existing equipment or designs and fabricates requisite equipment.
- Collaborates in the development of new strategies, techniques, and equipment.
- Provides research administrative support including coordinating schedules, handling intake, maintaining records, and files.
Additional Duties:
- Assists in field and laboratory testing of pesticides and other insecticidal technologies, including oversight and supervisory responsibilities of the other techs and field/lab workers.
- Performs plant and insect sampling, counting and identification of cotton pest and beneficial arthropods.
- Performs scientific data collections and routine procedures characterized by moderate use of independent judgment.
- Maintains detailed records of studies conducted, organizes data, prepares data for computer input and records computer output.
- Data entry and proofing.
- Planting, harvesting, ginning and maintenance of research plots and insect colonies.
- Organizes supplies, materials or equipment and sets-up equipment for laboratory experiments.

- Applies general knowledge of the organization, job content, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to be proficient in all aspects of job.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with insect identification.
- Experience with insect sampling.
- Experience in data processing.
- Experience with cotton and vegetable production.
