The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ BASIC FUNCTION: Assist in fulfilling the educational mission and goals of the Office of Student Involvement within the Memorial Union and Division of Student Affairs. Lead and administer student development and engagement initiatives, including programming, training, advising, financial planning, student organization space allocation and coordinated campus partnerships for major events. Provide leadership and unit management for budget allocation and spending, communication, strategic vision, assessment, supervision of staff and students, mission-driven facility use, and advising to all student organizations including structural and policy support regarding all aspects of student involvement and engagement. This is an in-person, onsite position. Duties and Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in developing a comprehensive student engagement strategy aligned with the institution's mission and goals, identifying key areas for improvement and prioritizing initiatives (training, communication, event planning, etc.) to enhance the student experience. Lead the development of programs, events, and training for student leaders within organizations to enhance student engagement with the broader campus community. In the area of Leadership and Administrative Functions: Assist in all aspects of implementing the Memorial Union Office of Student Involvement's key programs and services (Family Weekend, RhodyFest, student recognition ceremonies, campus traditions, etc.), and other initiatives aligned with the University's strategic plan and the strategic action plans of the Division of Student Affairs. Support work of the functional areas in the Division of Student Affairs by developing and implementing/facilitating experiential as well as training and development programs, strategies, and initiatives addressing student involvement and engagement including professional development needs for students. Partner with campus stakeholders including, but not limited to the Center for Student Leadership Development, Greek Life, the Multicultural Student Services Center, Office of Community, Equity and Diversity and campus Centers, University College Academic Success, Center for Career and Experiential Education, and all student organizations, to address specialized educational needs, training and development opportunities. Serve in relevant leadership related and higher education professional organizations. Represent the Division at conferences through workshop presentations and participation in leadership-oriented areas. Conduct assessment and research to explore the needs of students in regard to engagement and the effects of involvement experiences on students' overall collegiate experience, organizational effectiveness, and other impact KPI's related to student engagement. In the area of Advising, Training and Communication Functions: Utilize excellent presentation, facilitation, training and communication skills to create and deliver engaging and impactful training modules, workshops, seminars, and online resources that promote learning and engagement for both students, campus partners and affiliated student organization advisors. Develop and assess standard operating procedures and training protocols for student organization members, leaders, and affiliated advisors. Advise students in Senate recognized student organizations, as well as other URI affiliated student organizations, and affiliated advisors about all relevant policies, procedures, financial responsibilities. Utilize technology (e.g., Anthology, E-Campus, URInvolved, etc.) to maintain records and evaluate communication patterns, needs, and strategies for effective student organization management. Assist in creating an atmosphere for personal and academic growth, for the student population and all affiliated staff members, graduate and undergraduate students as well as affiliated advisors through professional communication. Lead in developing communication strategies with the university master calendar events and URInvolved, campus scheduling. In the area of Administrative Functions: Communicate with and direct the Memorial Union Finance staff and the URI Student Senate on financial matters and student engagement needs in relation to the strategic plan. Serve as the responsible unit leader to address critical needs and conflict resolution. Serve as a resource and consultant for the campus community in regard to student engagement. Develop strategies to train and inform campus stakeholders about rights, responsibilities, policies and support mechanisms. Work to sustain and enhance partnerships that further develop programs and services that successfully and safely address student engagement. Develop and attend trainings related to successful event management (fire safety, security needs, event management, crowd management, best practices in student engagement, etc.). Develop and manage marketing and publications for the Memorial Union and Student Involvement, including managing department website(s), social media accounts, and electronic and print publications. Support Division marketing initiatives and contribute appropriate content. Lead and mentor a team of student engagement professionals, including graduate assistants and all other student interns, providing guidance and support for their work. Directly advise high-profile student organizations and/or ensure direct advising from professional staff. Provide fiduciary compliance for the Student Involvement Office and assist in doing so for all recognized student organizations. Provide leadership in supervising building operations and event management (in relation to student organization events). Serve on departmental, Student Affairs, and University-wide committees. In the absence of the Assistant Vice President, provide coverage for the reporting units. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Encourage and assist students in getting involved in campus life and offer support services. Respond to student needs and requests for support by providing programs, services, and advocacy for student issues. Create and support interventions that promote service learning, student community service opportunities, campus and community engagement. Perform additional duties as requested. LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT: Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, learning management platforms, video conference platforms, student engagement technology, web page development and maintenance, and other technology and related training as required.
