Overview

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Maintenance Technician I . Perform maintenance on the distribution and collection system, install taps, and performs maintenance on plant equipment.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is located in Charlotte, NC. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Some travel may be required within service area. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for water line and sewer repairs, new line installation, taps, flushing valve maintenance, and plant equipment maintenance.
  • Maintains work truck and tools.
  • Inspects and maintains pumps, motors, valves and blowers in working order, troubleshooting problems as they arise.
  • Pulls motors and pumps for repair, to include wiring and fabrication of parts as necessary.
  • Replaces valves.
  • Repairs fire hydrants.
  • Assist plant operations as required.

What You'll Bring

Education and Certification

  • High school Diploma
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.

Physical and Technical Skills

  • Basic skills with Microsoft Suite of applications
  • Ability to read and comprehend written technical information and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, and tools
  • Work requires lifting, moving and/or carrying fire hydrants, concrete meter boxes, other heavy items weighing over 25 pounds; driving trucks and operating a backhoe; duties also require walking, reaching, lifting, climbing, stooping, and digging. Equipment used includes backhoe, tools and equipment required to install and repair water and sewer lines.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily outside and is subject to weather and environmental conditions.
  • Worker is subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; physical hazards from moving machinery, equipment with moving parts, traffic, hazardous chemicals, and bacteria in wastewater.
