Scientist - Ligand Binding Assays (LBA) Category: Science & Technology Employment Type: Contract To Hire Scientist - Ligand Binding Assays (LBA) Primary Duties : The Scientist for the LBA team will design, develop, qualify, validate, and implement ligand-binding immunoassays that support clinical endpoints across our client's vaccine portfolio. The role demands expertise in methods and technologies that include ELISA, RIA, Luminex, Ortho VITROS, ECL and automated platforms. The candidate will also be expected to provide mentorship and effectively supervise and train lab personnel to perform assigned tasks while ensuring applicable compliance and regulatory agency standards are met. The candidate will serve as key resource as expert technical representation within its organization and on multidisciplinary teams. This is a laboratory-based role and the candidate is expected to spent high percent time in lab. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Scientific Operations and Management
- Evaluate new technologies and automation to enhance throughput, precision, accuracy, and overall quality for clinical studies.
- Interpret, summarize and report complex data sets with clear and concise oral and written communications.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert on developed assays and demonstrate the ability to educate, train or mentor other team members.
- Perform/support activities to ensure test method life cycle management (documentation, method suitability/trending, maintenance, etc.).
- Support completion of analytical deliverables to meet project milestones.
- Lead and assist in the evaluation of new technologies and automation improvements to support analytical expertise as required.
- Works with internal and external partners in support of collaborative projects.

Laboratory Operations
- Under direction of management, plans and oversees the day-to-day operations and general activities associated with one or more laboratories/projects.
- Ensures laboratory resources (materials/reagents/equipment/facilities) are maintained to meet assigned objectives.
- Support a quality and compliant testing environment (laboratories, equipment, reagents, training and documentation, methods, personnel).
- Maintain alignment of processes and procedures. Share best practices within team/platform.

Personnel Supervision and Management
- Oversees operational activities of staff working in the laboratory
- Provides guidance and expert advice to staff on technical issues, safety procedures and regulatory compliance matters within the laboratory. Monitors operations to ensure compliance.
- Ensures that new employees are appropriately trained/on-boarded and familiar with laboratory operational requirements.
- Provide guidance and training for complex molecular assays.

Regulatory/Quality Management
- Ensures adherence to all applicable quality, corporate, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- May serve as Subject matter Expert (SME) as required.
- Support departmental quality by ensuring adequate support for documentation, investigation, and closure of quality items including change controls, deviations, and CAPAs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Specialized degree in biological sciences from an accredited University.
- B.Sc. + 6yr experience.
- M.Sc. + 3yr experience.
- PhD + 1yr experience.
- Demonstrated previous experience with developing and/or applying ligand binding immunoassays to detect and quantify analytes in biological or other complex samples, as evidenced by scientific publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
- Ability to work with viruses, bacteria and potentially infectious samples from humans (BSL-2 or BSL-2+).
- Lead, mentor and train lab staff.
- Strong ability to deliver complex objectives under aggressive timelines in a rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent technical, critical thinking and communication (oral and written) skills with ability to manage projects and resolve technical problems independently and also work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Be a highly motivated team player with the ability to interact effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
