Essential Job Responsibilities:

SSA Marine is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Accountant to join our Accounting team.   • Drive the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Review monthly financials, staff and peer accounting entries, and audit workpapers
  • Review, analyze and post general ledger entries for payroll utilizing external subledger systems
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax laws and compliance standards
  • Thorough understanding of payroll and benefits laws and procedures
  • Provide analysis of variances between financial results (monthly, quarterly, annually)
  • Assist in developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and flux analysis
  • Preparation and review of various stand-alone audit reports
  • Continually review, recommend and develop efficiencies of accounting procedures
  • Lead cross-functional payroll projects as a subject matter expert (SME), delivering process improvements and operational clarity
  • Document, review and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Clear cross-functional communication and relationship building with internal customers
  • Mentor staff accountants and support learning and development
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting responsibility with emphasis in payroll and benefits
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel (pivots, macros, large data sets)
  • ERP systems experience (ADP Vantage, Blackline, IFS, AS400)
  • Results oriented who relishes solving problems with an eye towards development and learning
  • Supportive, communicative, and impactful leader
