Scope of Position:

The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting the Head Chef/Kitchen Manager and Sous Chef in all food and beverage production.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals. Exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects. Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • During Events, set up food service stations.
  • Maintain food and supplies for the Cafe.
  • Prepare equipment and obtain supplies as needed.
  • Plan, oversee, and operate supplemental food and beverage services for Cafe, vending, and catering and events.
  • Ability to work with and understand Banquet Event Orders (BEO's)
  • Assures all BEO's are executed correctly and with superior quality standards.
  • Review daily Banquet Event Orders and prep lists
  • Maintains Inventory in the absence of the Sous Chef.
  • Check supplies and inform Chef and/or Events & Catering Coordinator of needed supplies.
  • Compliant with all state and federal food sanitation policies.
  • Rotate food items in Kitchen, Storage, and Cafe
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all menu items and recipes.
  • Keeps the work area clean and orderly at all times.
  • Assist in washing dishes when needed.
  • Responsible for tracking waste and logging in appropriate form.
  • Maintains a high level of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary Kitchen and workplace.
  • Follows safety policies at all times to avoid injury.
  • Communicates issues, concerns, complaints, compliments, and suggestions to the management of the organization and not to the other associates, guests, etc.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assures all food is delivered to rooms at correct time.
  • Assuring all food deliveries are accurate and stored appropriately.
  • Attending all related department meetings in absence of Chef.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential job requirement.
  • Prepare and cook meals for Cafe, Events, and Banquets


                As with any position with The Salvation Army, it is impossible to predict the many requests and assignments that may be made on the employee.                 Physical Requirements:



                • Must be well groomed and adhere to the required dress code.
                • Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance
                • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, push, pull, smell, taste, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, talk, hear, have-eye hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read, and working in noisy areas, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position


                Working Conditions:

                The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.

                The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

                This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.

                Education & Work Experience:



                • Must be 18 years old or older.
                • A minimum of One (1) years' experience in food service experience or relative education required.


                License and Certifications:



                • Must have current Food Handlers Certificate.
                • First Aid, CPR, AED certification preferred.
                • Current driver license required or be able to obtain with in 90 days.
                • ServSafe certification preferred.
