Auria is looking for a Model-Based System Engineer (MBSE) to support the development of advanced cloud-ready ground systems. This role combines system engineering with model-driven design practices to ensure traceable, interoperable, and high-quality solutions within a secure Digital Engineering Environment (DEE). The successful candidate will apply software modeling approaches to capture requirements, software behaviors, and interfaces in formal models that support design, simulation, and integration. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to next-generation mission systems by enabling advanced modeling, software design automation, and integration across complex ground and cloud-based environments.
This is a remote position with a preference to be located in Colorado Springs, Co, or Huntsville, AL.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
- Develop and maintain MBSE models using SysML/UML/UAF or equivalent modeling language ensuring consistency with requirements and architecture.
- Generate tool-agnostic deliverables (XML, JSON, CSV) to support digital engineering ecosystem integration.
- Implement ICD-linked modeling with auto-generated compliance reports and full traceability from requirements through test.
- Generate and manage interface definitions, API schemas, and data models within the DEE.
- Collaborate with systems engineers to ensure software models integrate seamlessly into system-of-system architectures.
- Support simulation and analysis of system and subsystem behavior (latency, throughput, error handling) to validate mission requirements.
- Build and execute scenario-driven models (mission scenarios, operational threads, reusable test cases) aligned with mission engineering analysis.
- Contribute to open architecture and MOSA-compliant designs that are cloud-ready and cyber-secure.
- Assist in the preparation of design reviews, milestone deliverables, and technical documentation.
- Engage in multi-disciplinary team collaboration across geographically distributed organizations.
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, System Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+ years of software development or software engineering experience, preferably in defense, aerospace, or mission systems.
- Demonstrated experience in modeling with SysML/UML/UAF or equivalent modeling languages for software design and documentation.
- Experience with model-based engineering tools (e.g., Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, Viso, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of software development practices (Agile, CI/CD, DevSecOps, ...)
- Knowledge of open standards, APIs, and tool-agnostic, interoperable data formats (JSON, XML, CSV, REST) to support digital ecosystem integration.
- Mission-Driven Professional: Collaborative contributor motivated by the opportunity to develop cutting-edge solutions that protect and serve both the nation and the world.
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
- Experience delivering repeatable and verifiable MBSE artifacts consistent with DoD digital engineering standards.
- Background in mission engineering and scenario-driven modeling to align with operational mission threads and use cases.
- Background in cloud-native architectures.
- Familiarity with digital engineering environments and requirements traceability.
- Exposure to aerospace, defense, or ground system architectures.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work across multi-disciplinary teams.
PAY TRANSPARENCY: The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications - skills, education & experience - and the position level. $120,000 - $150,000
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The deadline to apply is October 15, 2025
