THE POSITION

We have a continuing need for Spanish speaking applicants. Individuals fluent in both English and Spanish are highly encouraged to apply. Individuals hired for these positions will be responsible for providing information and assistance to Spanish-speaking customers.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will carry out standardized road tests to assess the skills and abilities of applicants in a safe and courteous manner. You will be advocating for the bureau's agenda to deliver service excellence that matches the highest industry standards. This includes ensuring adherence to the Baldrige Criteria, ARBOR standards, and the customer service policy of Driver Vehicle Services, among other benchmarks. Work involves evaluating the applicant's physical condition and driving qualifications, as well as checking the mechanical state of vehicles according to set guidelines.

You will conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections before the driving tests, ensuring that vehicles have valid inspection stickers and functioning lights, wipers, and other essential features for safety. Additionally, you will review applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraud. You will also have the opportunity to administer knowledge tests for both CDL and Non-CDL applicants to gauge their understanding of motor vehicle laws and traffic signs, while assessing their practical driving skills and adherence to road rules. Vision tests, including tele-binocular and color perception assessments, will also be part of your duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. Overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers may be required as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
