Purpose of the Role

The HSE Lead provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) activities across assigned projects. This role is accountable for driving HSE performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and embedding a proactive safety culture within project teams.

By championing risk management and sustainability initiatives, the HSE Lead plays a critical role in Worley's mission to deliver sustainable change while safeguarding people, assets, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and continual improvement of project HSE programs in alignment with Worley's global standards and sustainability objectives.

  • Serve as the primary HSE focal point for project and construction managers, offering expert guidance on risk management, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices.

  • Conduct and oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, and job safety analyses, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and maintained.

  • Actively monitor HSE performance, identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement, and develop targeted action plans.

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and ensure corrective and preventive measures are effectively implemented and tracked.

  • Mentor and coach project team members, subcontractors, and field personnel to foster a strong, engaged safety culture.

  • Facilitate HSE meetings, training sessions, and workshops to raise awareness and reinforce best practices.

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, ensuring readiness across the project team.

  • Collaborate with project leadership and clients to ensure HSE expectations are clearly communicated and achieved.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and project-specific requirements.

  • Contribute to organizational knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to HSE management systems, processes, and tools.

Qualifications / Skillset
  • University degree or equivalent in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Extensive experience in HSE leadership roles within engineering, construction, energy, chemicals, or resources sectors.

  • Advanced knowledge of HSE principles, regulations, codes, and standards, with proven ability to apply them in complex project environments.

  • Strong track record of successfully leading HSE initiatives and improving safety performance across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Skilled in conducting and leading incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and influencing skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proficiency in HSE management systems, digital tools, and reporting platforms to track performance and support decision-making.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve problems, and deliver practical solutions that support project success and sustainability goals.

  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
