Job Summary News 12 New York is seeking a driven and creative Freelance Producer to help shape the future of our daily live streaming programming. This role is an opportunity to be part of a team reimagining how local news connects with audiences across platforms. The Producer will be central to building a dynamic, anchor-driven newscast that blends hyper-local reporting with stories that resonate regionally and nationally. The ideal candidate will bring sharp editorial instincts, live production expertise, and an eye for storytelling that resonates in real time - with both traditional viewers and a digital-first, internet-savvy audience. Responsibilities Collaborate with anchors, show teams, and production crews before, during, and after live broadcasts to refine rundowns and adapt quickly to breaking developments. Write for live impact by crafting scripts that are clear, credible, and connect with audiences across platforms. Use newsroom systems to integrate graphics, live feeds, and digital-first elements that enhance programming. Work closely with the Producer team to balance hyper-local reporting with regional and national context, with a keen eye on politics, business, technology, and culture. Generate original ideas, identify breakout moments, and package segments for streaming and social platforms. Partner with producers on segment development, ensuring content is both editorially sound and audience focused. Maintain quality standards: Ensure all elements (video, audio, and graphics) meet technical and editorial benchmarks. Qualifications Experience in journalism and live production, ideally in both broadcast and streaming/OTT environments Control room and live workflow expertise, with the ability to adapt under pressure Demonstrated knowledge of breaking news, politics, business, technology, culture, and local issues Excellent research, writing, grammar, and copy-editing skills Familiarity with ENPS, iNews, or comparable newsroom systems Understanding of production and post-production techniques, including graphics and visual storytelling Ability to manage multiple live inputs and make fast, accurate editorial decisions Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit - comfortable working across teams to innovate newsroom workflows Curiosity for emerging formats (short-form, interactive, vertical video) and how they connect with diverse audiences We are an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to recruiting, hiring and promoting qualified people of all backgrounds regardless of gender, race, color, creed, national origin, religion, age, marital status, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other basis protected by federal, state, or local law. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is$47,040.00-$77,280.00/ year.
