Position Summary:

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Inflammation and Center for NeuroVirology and Gene Editing at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is looking to recruit an Assistant Scientist.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigators (PI), the candidate will conduct advanced research in a dynamic laboratory environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The research focuses on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-associated neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on the molecular characterization of circular RNAs aimed at counteracting HIV-1-induced neurotoxicity. In close collaboration with the PIs, the candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing various phases of the research projects.

Job Details:

* This is a grant funded position

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree and at least one year of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Experience in laboratory techniques associated with molecular and biochemical analysis of biological material (DNA, RNA, Protein)

* Experience in cell culture

* Ability to perform research techniques including ELISA, Histology, Immunohistochemistry, Western blots, PCR

* Ability to work in a Biosafety Level 2 environment with human and animal fluids and tissues

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Working knowledge of applicable computer software.

* Ability to work in an environment exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals

* Ability to distinguish colors

* Ability to reach with hands and arms

Essential Duties:

* Development of research project goals

* Creating an experimental design

* Making ongoing revisions to project experiment plans and procedures as needed to pursue project objectives

* Assisting in developing systems for data collection and data management

* Interpreting experimental data and preparing materials for conferences, research reports

* Perform laboratory experimentation, analysis, and literary research as required

* Consult colleagues or scientific literature to develop professional expertise

* Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and protocols in the lab

* Operate and maintain moderately complex laboratory equipment and order supplies

* Report data to supervisor and team and working well with a team of scientists

* Performs other duties as assigned
