Temple University's Department of Student Health is searching for a Medical Assistant!

Salary Grade: T22

Hourly Rate: $23/hr.

Position Summary:

Primarily responsible for receiving patients in a courteous, efficient manner and supporting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of medically related tasks in a primary care outpatient student health service practice including general medicine and gynecology visits. Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests. Administers specified medication within scope of practice by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients' charts. Performs other duties as assigned. Care is rendered primarily at Main Campus Student Health Services. However, MA may be assigned to any of the two (2) campus sites: Health Science Center or Main Campus

Job Details:

* This position requires the following background checks: criminal history review, child abuse clearance and FBI fingerprinting

Required Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma.

* Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program required.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:

* 2-3 years' experience as a Medical Assistant

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Excellent communication and organizational skills.

* Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner.

* Must have a customer service orientation and the ability to interact with professionalism and tact under stress.

* Must be proficient with applications such as Microsoft Office

Essential Duties:

* Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests such as urine pregnancy and dipstick analysis as requested by physician or nurse practitioner.

* Provides routine injections as ordered by physician or nurse practitioner.

* Stock patient exam rooms and assure that the rooms are maintained in good order.

* Assist with vision and hearing screenings when needed.

* Obtain oral or axillary temperatures as directed.

* Answer telephones, recording and relying on accurate information.

* Assist with referral completion, when needed.

* Assist providers and nurses with general care, as requested

* Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement projects and committees as appropriate.

* Assists in the coordination of outreach in cooperation with other departments, where appropriate, for specific medical issues, e.g., immunization programs.

* Promotes health education and illness prevention initiatives throughout the University.

* Participates in the maintenance of an appropriate formulary by making recommendations for medical and surgical supplies.

* Performs other duties as assigned.
